Paul Dawson was born in Brighton on 15 February 1908, the son of Frances Dawson (née Sykes) and Canon William Dawson, Head Master of Brighton College at the time, and elder brother of Michael. He joined the army after leaving the College, where he had been a School Prefect, and was commissioned as a lieutenant in the Royal Regiment of Artillery.
During the Second World War he won the Military Cross and reached the rank of lieutenant-colonel with the 21st Mountain Regiment of the Royal Indian Artillery. He fought in India and Burma and died on active service in August 1944. Dawson was mentioned in despatches after his death, and is buried in the Ranchi War Cemetery in India.
