House Prefect 1929
Born in Calcutta on 21 July 1912 to Edward Featherstone and his wife Catherine, known as Jennie (née Middleton), Henry was a House Prefect at the College, and played a Noble Lord in Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado alongside William Purves.
On New Year’s Day 1941 he was serving with 206 Squadron, flying maritime patrols in the Lockheed Hudson, a bomber and coastal reconnaissance aircraft. That day, his aircraft crashed into a barn wall while taking off for a transit flight at Bircham Newton in Norfolk, killing all on board. Featherstone, who is buried in the nearby St Mary’s Churchyard, was accompanied in the plane by another Old Brightonian, John Allen.
