Edward Jones was born on 27 August 1913 in Edmonton, Middlesex, to Louisa Jones (née Ramsay) and Rev. Henry Jones, both originally from Uruguay. A physically imposing man – described as ‘a very big fellow’ in correspondence between an Old Boy and the College after his death – he joined School House in 1927, and after leaving the College became a land agent in Edinburgh.

During the war he served as a driver in the transport section of the Royal Army Supply Corps. We know nothing of how Jones died, despite the best efforts of the Head Master, who wrote to several officers trying to get to the bottom of the mystery. He is buried in Israel’s Ramleh War Cemetery.
