Sub-Lieutenant, Royal Navy
Born: March 6th 1920
Died: April 27th 1941

Age at Death: 21

Killed, April 27th 1941

Kenneth was born on 6 March 1920 to John and Emma Jackson. At the College he played Iris, daughter of Zeus, in the Aristophanes play The Birds. Kenneth served with the Royal Navy in the Second World War.

In April 1941 he perished when his ship, the destroyer HMS Wryneck, was sunk by German planes while involved in the evacuation of troops from Greece. The Royal Navy suffered heavy losses while carrying out the evacuation, but Andrew Cunningham, commander of the Mediterranean fleet, refused to abandon the operation, famously saying:

It takes the Navy three years to build a ship. It will take three hundred years to build a new tradition. The evacuation will continue.

Jackson, who had visited the College while on leave just the month before, is commemorated at the Chatham Naval Memorial.
