Hector Graham was born on 16 May 1913, the only child of Alexander Graham and his wife Mary (née Findlater), who lived in Islington, London. Hector had a distinguished time at the College, winning two modern languages prizes, taking part in debating, and representing the school in cross-country running. He also passed the written examination for Certificate ‘A’ in the Officer Training Corps tests.
In 1937 he enlisted as a private in the London Scottish Regiment, representing his company when it was visited by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. In 1942, serving with the Reconnaissance Corps, he died on active service in Bombay. As the city was far from the front, he may well have succumbed to disease. After his death, a comrade remembered, in the Daily Telegraph, first meeting him three years before:
A cheerful, upstanding, smart looking lad, it struck us that he was the right type for an officer.
He is buried at the Kirkee War Cemetery.
