Gordon was born on 1 December 1918 to Harold Elliott, a dentist who had served in the army in the Great War, and his wife Gladys (née Way) of Steyning, near Brighton. At the College he was a member of the Shooting VIII.
When war came he enlisted in the 2nd Battalion of the Cheshire Regiment, and participated in the Battle for France in 1940, before being evacuated from Dunkirk. He then fought in the Western Desert campaign and was killed in Egypt in June 1942. Elliott is buried at the El Alamein War Cemetery. His older brother, Raymond, was lost on the return flight from a bombing mission over Germany in 1940
