Cedric Thompson was born in Bromley, Kent, on 3 February 1916, and was the only son of Gerald Thompson and his wife Hilda (née Malaher). He served in the RAF as a wireless operator and air gunner on bombers, and was killed on active service in April 1943. Thompson is buried at the Suez War Memorial Cemetery, on the western outskirts of the city. The date of his death, and location of his burial, suggest that he was killed in the closing stages of the Western Desert campaign, when the German and Italian troops were being defeated in Tunisia.
