Dear Ryle
You may have heard that the College has been raising money for a new memorial statue, helping us to remember the 147 Old Brightonians who sacrificed their lives in the Great War. Situated outside the College Chapel, the statue will not be that of a soldier, but a Brighton College boy in school uniform leaving the Chapel for the last time to serve his country.
Over the last 12 months, parents and Old Brightonians have been making a donation of £1,000 to 'sponsor' and leave a dedication to each of the boys from the Roll of Honour. It has been a deeply moving project involving pupils, parents and Old Brightonians, and we are now very close to remembering each of the 147 who died and reaching our fundraising target.
As part of our commemorative activities each House has chosen a past pupil to remember. As a young man from Haywards Heath, I think that Colin Wise is an ideal choice for us. As a day boy with a commute familiar to many in our current house there is a lovely connection with the present day Ryle pupils. Colin left the College in 1909 and you can read about what he did subsequently on his page in the Role Of Honour. Colin was killed in action in July 1917, aged 25.
To donate in memory of Colin, please simply use the links below. If you would like to add your comments and dedications to Colin’s page please email these through to remember@brightoncollege.net
Whether it is £20 or £100, anything you can contribute will help, and we would be extremely grateful.
